The Greenhouse Project,located in the James McNulty Greenhouse in Nay Aug Park in Scranton, is growing a sustainable community through education programs, wholesome food priorities and healthy eating initiatives. Our goal is to educate children and adults about horticulture, health, preventing disease through diet and active lifestyle, and to support locally-grown food and responsible food policy. Plant, herb and flower sales help us sustain our mission. In addition to being a source of vegetable transplants and flowers for city and county residents, we donate to and beautify Nay Aug Park, community gardens, and Scranton City Hall. Our many programs also benefit local hunger projects and at-risk members of our community.
Through partnerships with schools, farmers, local businesses, non-profits and area residents, The Greenhouse Project provides a variety of educational opportunities and supports local food systems. The Greenhouse also offers a variety of volunteer gardening opportunities for all levels of experience.
The McNulty Greenhouse was made possible by a generous grant from the Walmart Foundation and a grant from Ronald McDonald House Foundation. The Greenhouse Project operates collaboratively through an agreement with the Nay Aug Park Conservancy, Nay Aug Park Recreation Authority, The Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Scranton.
The Greenhouse Project is partially funded by The William G. McGowan Foundation, Gertrude Hawk Chocolate, The Scranton Area Foundation, The United Way of Lackawanna County, Lackawanna Heritage Valley Association, Penn Foster, Whole Kids Foundation and Johnny's Seeds.
We sell perennial and annual flowers, herbs, organic veggie seedlings, and hanging baskets to support our programs, classes and trainings, educational documentaries and more. The Greenhouse uses organic practices in its edible food transplants and offers heirloom varieties when possible. We also partner with the Lackawaxen Farm Company to bring fresh, local products from more than 25 regional farms and producers for distribution to the community.
